Managing your time effectively can be such a challenge, especially if you are on the hunt for a new job. Filling out applications is a tiring task, so it’s important to have a time management strategy that works well for you to help you maximize your time and energy.

Whether you are trying to land a paid internship or at a midpoint and looking to change your career, understanding your personality type is key to finding a time management strategy that works for you.

However, managing your time is important for more than just job hunting. If you are looking to become a freelancer, you need to be in control of your time on your own, since your only boss is yourself. Freelancing can be difficult, but it is one of the most rewarding careers since you are in complete control of your professional life.

No matter why you want to manage your time more effectively, the first step is to figure out your personality type. Whether you are extroverted, introverted, ambiverted, or any other type, finding a time management tactic is crucial to succeeding in your professional life.

For more extroverted people, a great time management strategy is the Eat That Frog technique. This technique involves getting the things you like least out of the way first thing, so the rest of the day you can do activities you enjoy. For people who aren’t as structured, this is a great option to leave flexibility in your day while still maintaining enough order to stay on top of your freelance position.

More introverted types should try out the Pomodoro technique, in which you spend 25 minutes working on a task, take a 5-minute break, repeat this 4 times, then take a longer break. This is based on the traditional “Pomodoro timer” and can help your brain hyper-focus for short intervals since you know you are getting a break soon.

A great option for “helper” personality types is the task-batch method, in which you group similar things together. For example, a freelance copywriter could task learning WordPress with creating outlines for posts. This is great to ensure you don’t fall into the trap of multitasking so much that you get nothing done.

No matter what time management style you choose, it’s important to find one that works well for you. There is no one size fits all solution to time management, because each person is different and has unique strengths and skills. Check out the infographic below for a complete list of time management strategies based on your personality type.
