What is Content Marketing?
I have covered differences between copywriting and content marketing in a previous Blog post, which you are welcome to read for yourself.
To recap however, according to Copyblogger, ‘Content marketing means creating and sharing valuable free content to attract and convert prospects into customers, and customers into repeat buyers. The type of content you share is closely related to what you sell; in other words, you’re educating people so that they know, like, and trust you enough to do business with you’.
What do Copywriters do?
‘A copywriter is a salesperson behind a typewriter’ – Judith Charles.
This quote obviously stems from the time before computers, but the basics of what a copywriter is has not changed in this new era of technological change. Copywriting is still regarded as writing that is promotional in nature and is created (written) to appear in any medium whether it is in print, television, radio, video, web copy (the internet) etc.
YOUR IDEAL AUDIENCE
With the advent of digitalisation, we can now establish our businesses online with great looking websites, sell products through e-commerce stores and we can even market that business online and get other people who are not connected to that business in any direct way, to market the business for us through affiliate marketing programs.
The main question we are however continually confronted with, is how do we reach our customers online, create a community, grow our reputation and bring in new business?
In one of our previous posts, Fast Facts about Digital Branding, I mentioned that people tend to think that Branding is all about visual identity, but that any brand (irrespective of whether it is a personal or a business brand), is the sum of people’s experience of you. I also indicated that how people experience your brand online matters and that in the midst of this Digital Revolution, so to speak, you need to pay attention to the digital branding of your personal brand (or that of your company).
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I was one of those big ‘doubters’ that it is at all worthwhile to include emails as a marketing channel in my overall marketing strategy. After all email marketing is dead, right? Wrong! Email Marketing is by far the most effective marketing tool that you can deploy in your entire marketing arsenal.
So, you decided to be a Freelance Writer, but you don’t know where to get paying jobs?
You will remember that I said in my last post that there are a lot of good reasons why you would want to be a Freelance Writer. You can do what you love, in your own time and you can do it from home. What’s more is that people will pay you to write for them, or you can even start your own Blog and make money from that.

Fast Facts about Digital Branding
People tend to think that Branding is all about visual identity. When you think of branding in the traditional sense, you think about logos, colour schemes and corporate identity indicators like letterheads and business cards. You won’t be wrong if you think this is what branding is. Think for example of brands like Nike and Coke a Cola. Their logos and colour schemes do inspire what you think of them.
How to Establish a Social Media Presence for Your Blog
We are in the midst of the 4th revolution and its a Digital Revolution! Don’t laugh, but I grew up in an age without computers and without mobile phones…My age is showing :).
With the advent of the internet and then of search engines like Google and Bing, everything changed.
Here are Two of the WordPress Theme Companies which I Use Frequently
Elegant Themes: DIVI
I use Divi simply because they hold elegance at their core. The Freelance Writing Blog (this Blog) has been designed and developed using Divi. I like Divi, because you can purchase a lifetime license and build your own websites over and over with the Divi Builder, and because they also have a vast range of beautifully designed Themes which you can customize to suit your needs. This is what I have done with this Blog of mine.
Now you have designed and launched your Blog and you are Blogging a storm, but how are you going to get your Blog in front of the eyes that will click on your affiliate links and buy the Products that will generate the income you need?
We are so lucky that we are living in a digital age. When I grew up and started working, there weren’t event that many computers around and a fax machine was a terrific invention!
You Can Also be a Freelance Writer
Take a page from my book so to speak. I spent more than 20 years as a negotiator at a Trade Union for Public Servants. Although I love working with people, I did not feel that I was in a fulfilling job as I could not fully express my creativity. Yes, I connected with a vast range of different people daily and my job did include writing Newsletters for our members. It was however not connecting with that left hemisphere of my brain in the way I wanted it to.
